Design Journey

“If you are not doing what you love, you are wasting your time” –Billy Joel.
In the beginning of this year, I was a member of the two period class, computer networking.  While Mr. T is an incredible teacher and a great guy, I found myself not being readily stimulated by his class. I suppose the IT industry is just not my calling. I decided to drop that class, and since seniors cannot have more than 2 off periods I needed to take another course. I decided to take graphic design, because I loved playing with Photoshop in DIM, and I had a passion for art. I believe that I enjoyed Graphic Design so much because it allowed me to unleash my abundance of artistic energy without having to embarrass myself with my sub-par doodles. Senior year was a fairly difficult year; an overwhelming amount of 6 strenuous AP courses really weighs down the enjoyment of the proverbial easy senior year. However, whenever I arrived at graphic design class at the end of the day, I received respite from my demanding schedule.
My favorite projects in graphic design allowed the student to dictate most of the designed choices of the project. Those select projects where there was little to no instructions allowed me to open up my creative brain and unleash the ideas which fraternize with my imagination during the mundane school schedule.

If I could do high school again, I do not believe I would change any items other than maybe studying harder. As far as my schedule goes, I really wish I would have taken graphic design sooner so I could have partaken in the higher level design classes. My senior year was definitely the most fun year of my high School career.

Indesign

I became familiar with indesign by slightly editing this image.

I did this pamphlet about sporktown and learned to insert images and create patterns. I send you an .indd file so you can view the back of this if you please.

I became familiar with text wrap while doing this activity.

This activity taught me how to use a different image to achieve an effect of placing people over text while still having a background. This activity also helped me combine all the techniques i learned in previous activities.

I became familiar with the basics of indesign during this activity.

I did not use any outside images except for a downloaded pattern to color my text (Zentextures.com), but i did use an online tutorial to help me create the realistic space image.

Removing Objects from Photos

I had trouble making it so the lighting of the bricks appeared realistic. I also struggled because the angle of the photo distorted the lines of the bricks, making it hard to create them seemingly aligned.

Contrast Project

This is Vladimir Putin and i did both High Pass and Grunge to this poster.
I chose this text tutorial because i wanted to make him seem similar to an evil entity, perhaps Satan. I had trouble with my text tutorial because i was not able to use the downloads given in the tutorial without paying so i had to create my own texture for the fire, also i could not download the same font the tutorial used so i had to find different values for the effects applied in the tutorial. If i could do this project again i would choose a different text tutorial. HOWEVER, this was the 2nd text tutorial i tried and it looked better than the first so i was kinda like, eh...

here are images i found for the tutorial.

Adjustment Layers

Even though my adjustment layers do not make my painting more realistic, some adjustment layers like posterize, threshold and invert are not supposed to create a realistic looking image. In my image i used the four following adjustment layers: Selective Color, Photo Filter (orange), Exposure, and Vibrance. I believe these layer adjustments created an interesting blend of colors in my final iceburg photo.
